Silicon Valley and San Francisco

It’s been a crazy couple of days. We left Monterey last Wednesday and drove 3 hours south to Los Osos, where we dropped off the van for a week to get a makeover at GoWesty (new engine, new cooling and exhaust system, new tentโ€ฆ). From there, we drove a rental car back north to San Jose to visit David, an old work friend of Gregor’s.

On Friday night, David and his wife, Andrea, took us to an absolutely stellar California cuisine bistro in Los Gatos called Nick’s on Main. This little Silicon Valley gem is both simple and elegant, serving what one reviewer aptly called “hedonistic comfort food”. I had the Chilean sea bass, Gregor had the pork tenderloin, and our gracious hosts had roasted pheasant – spectacular! To find out more about the restaurant, check out the reviews on Yelp!

We spent the weekend eating our way through San Francisco and attempting to walk off our meals in between so that we could eat some more. The photos below sum up our “big city” weekend.

A favourite with locals in The Castro, Chow serves California-fresh Italian food.

Thanks! Not bad for 3 bucks. I can’t even park in Calgary’s Chinatown for that cheap.

Hey Gesine, I hear that Westjet flies to SF all the time! It would be a great city to tour on a 3-day weekend.
