The Biggest Decision

We’re leaving this weekend for our big road trip! After months of careful planning and several days of strategic packing, one decision remained…What shoes do we bring?

It really doesn’t matter if I’m going away for a business trip, a weekend getaway, or an international vacation – selecting the footwear is the toughest packing decision for me. You see, I have 27 pairs of shoes. This includes outdoor shoes, indoor shoes, dress shoes, and technical footwear (boots for hiking, climbing, mountaineering, and skiing). I’ve been called “Imelda” by friends and family. I’ve got shoes that are so old, they’re coming back in style.

The living space in the van is about 5.5′ H x 6′ W x 13.5′ L. Not a lot of room for two people to live and work and store non-essential footwear. I went to IKEA to see what shoe storage solutions they could offer. I came out with a blue IKEA shopping bag – the big one you can buy for a buck. I figured, if the shoes fit, pack it!

Here’s what we’re bringing:

So how many pairs of shoes do you have?

You guys! I think you will have a larger shoe selection than we do when you come to visit us. I didn’t know about your shoe thing, Janice! I like your funky city shoes!

Wow — you leave this weekend?! Happy travels!

Janice I can totally relate. The shoe issue is always the last issue to be solved. And you never know when you are going to need the shoes you left behind. Hey at least your in a place you can alway go “shoe shopping”
Gregor, love the funky city shoes, way to go!

I commend your selections – well done! Very well balanced – and still possibly some room for expansion over the summer…?

Indeed…I’m sure that Gregor will be happy to get rid of some automotive tools to make room for my new stilettos.

You guys are so wierd…it is almost cute. Gregor, drop the funky city shoes, not so funky my friend. And really, approach shoes and hiking boots, how over the top! (I don’t even know what I would be approaching in approach shoes??/)

Tim, we approach life in approach shoes!

      I like my funky shoes.

And Janice is the cute one, not me.
